The Effect of Realia Around School in the Vocabulary of Descriptive Text of the Eighth Grade Students at SMP Negeri 3 Tewah in Academic Year 2018/2019

Abstract

Vocabulary building is really important in any language teaching. Vocabulary also becomes the most important aspect in acquiring a language and mastering the second language. It is supposed by Schmitt (2000: 89) who says: “One of the keys in learning a foreign language is mastering the second language’s vocabulary”.

In this research, the researcher selected the population of the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Tewah in academic year 2018/2019 that was 87 students, for control group 29 students and for experimental group 29 students. Therefore, the sample of this research used random sampling. In collecting the data, the researcher used quasi-experimental design which used Randomized-Group Pre-Test Post-Test Control Group Design. Both groups were given pre-test, after that the control group was given conventional method and the experimental group was given treatment.

Based on the result of the calculation of t-test, it was found that the value of t-table (2.003) was lower than t-test (3.14). It means that the hypothesys “There is a significant effect of realia around school on the vocabulary of descriptive text of the eighth grade students of SMP 3 Tewah” of the research was accepted. In other words, the result by The Effect of Realia Around School on the Vocabulary of Descriptive Text of the Eighth Grade Students at SMP Negeri 3 Tewah in Academic Year 2018/2019 showed effect.
