GEEd welcomes research-based articles about current trends in English language teaching and learning, especially in the areas of teacher’s best practices in the classroom, students’ learning strategy, classroom interactions, the use of enhanced media in classroom, and language testing. Vocabulary also becomes the most important aspect in acquiring a language and mastering the second language. It is supposed by Schmitt (2000: 89) who says: “One of the keys in learning a foreign language is mastering the second language’s vocabulary”.</p> <p>In this research, the researcher selected the population of the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Tewah in academic year 2018/2019 that was 87 students, for control group 29 students and for experimental group 29 students. Therefore, the sample of this research used random sampling. In collecting the data, the researcher used quasi-experimental design which used Randomized-Group Pre-Test Post-Test Control Group Design. Both groups were given pre-test, after that the control group was given conventional method and the experimental group was given treatment.</p> <p>Based on the result of the calculation of t-test, it was found that the value of t-table (2.003) was lower than t-test (3.14). It means that the hypothesys “There is a significant effect of realia around school on the vocabulary of descriptive text of the eighth grade students of SMP 3 Tewah” of the research was accepted. In other words, the result by The Effect of Realia Around School on the Vocabulary of Descriptive Text of the Eighth Grade Students at SMP Negeri 3 Tewah in Academic Year 2018/2019 showed effect.</p> 2020-11-06T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2020 Journal General of English Education https://e-journal.upr.ac.id/index.php/GEEd/article/view/1870 The Effect of Quizlet on Students’ Vocabulary Achievement at Eleventh Grade Students 2020-11-09T06:21:40+00:00 <p><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; This research described the effect of Quizlet on students’ vocabulary achievement at eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Palangka Raya in academic year 2018/2019. The method used in this research was experimental quantitative, in which the researcher applied of media in teaching vocabulary to increase the students’s achievement score in learning English vocabulary. It was called as <em>Quizlet</em>. The process of teaching-learning through <em>Quizlet</em> was called treatment.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In collecting&nbsp; the data, the researcher used two tests named pre-test and posttest. Then, the researcher analyzed the two test to find out the effect of the treatment. The researcher used <em>One Group Pre-Test and Posttest Design</em> as a design of this research. There were 30 students taken as the sample of this research. They were taken from the eleventh grade students of class XI<sup>10</sup> of SMA Negeri 4 Palangka Raya in academic year 2018/2019. The sample was taken by cluster random sampling technique.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The result of this research showed that the students’ achievement scores are increasing. Where the students mean scores on pre-test was 58,83 and on posttest was 73. It showed that the students’ mean score on posttest was higher than pre-test. In specific, the researcher can conclude that the <em>Quizlet</em> could increasing students’ achievement score of eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri Palangka Raya in academic year 2018/2019 in learning vocabulary, especially personal letter topic that focused on noun, verb, and adjective. This research had been proved by the t-test analysis to reject H<sub>0</sub> and to accepted H<sub>a</sub>&nbsp; where df = 29 of |t*| ? t<sub>table</sub> or 7,754 ? 2,045. Then, H<sub>0</sub> is rejected or H<sub>a </sub>is accepted. So, based on that hypothesis testing the <em>Quizlet</em> gave effect on students’ vocabulary achievement at eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Palangka Raya.</p> 2020-11-09T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2020 Journal General of English Education https://e-journal.upr.ac.id/index.php/GEEd/article/view/1872 The Effect of Monopoly Game on English Vocabulary Mastery of Descriptive Text 2020-11-09T07:14:47+00:00 <p style="text-align: justify;">This research was conducted to find out whether or not teaching vocabulary by using Monopoly Game give effect on students English vocabulary mastery of Descriptive Text especially about noun and adjective with topic of people and animal at the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Palangka Raya. This research used quantitative method with pre-experimental design by one group pre-test and post-test design. The sample was taken through cluster random sampling technique and it was VII-1 class. The data were collected through Vocabulary Test that consisted of pre-test and post-test. Then, the data were analyzed by using Wilcoxon Matched Pair Signed Rank test because the data was not normally distributed. The result of this research showed that the mean of pre-test was 63.25 and post-test was 82.12. The value of the test statistic was |4.936| and for 5% (.05) level of significant was 1.645. It meant that the null hypothesis was rejected and alternative hypothesis was accepted. Therefore, the researcher concluded that teaching Vocabulary using Monopoly Game to seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Palangka Raya gave significant effect on students’ vocabulary mastery of Descriptive Text especially about noun and adjective with topic of people and animal.</p> 2020-11-09T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2020 Journal General of English Education
