Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan studi awal yang bertujuan untuk memahami komposisi mineral dan sifat fisik sedimen di daerah tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami karakteristik mineral dan sifat fisik sedimen di dua pulau, yaitu Pulau Ballang Caddi dan Pulau Karanrang, yang terletak di Kepulauan Spermonde. Sampel sedimen dikumpulkan dari dua lokasi yang berbeda dengan tiga kedalaman berbeda di setiap lokasi. Metode analisis yang digunakan mencakup analisis tekstur sedimen untuk mengidentifikasi sifat fisik sedimen dan analisis Floresensi Sinar-X (XRF) untuk mengidentifikasi komponen mineral dalam sedimen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sedimen di Kepulauan Spermonde didominasi oleh pasir kasar dengan tingkat sortasi yang buruk. Komposisi mineral yang teridentifikasi dalam sedimen meliputi CaO, SiO, MgO, SrO, TiO2, dan Fe2O3, dengan CaO menjadi mineral yang paling melimpah. Hasil ini mengindikasikan bahwa sedimen tersebut sebagian besar berasal dari terumbu karang.
