An Alternative Approach To Online Learning In Border Areas Of Indonesia Is The Utilization Of Videos And E-Modules

Implementing online learning in remote areas poses significant challenges, while conducting face-to-face learning is impractical amidst the current pandemic. Hence, this research seeks to examine the effectiveness of utilizing offline teaching videos and e-modules as a viable alternative to online learning. This research is a quantitative research, the research design used is a post-test only control-group design. The experimental class was treated by learning using video teaching and e-modules. The population of this research is the seventh grade students of State Junior High School 03 Entikong and State Senior High School 01 Beduai. The number of samples in this study were 111 Students. The instruments in this study consisted of teaching videos and e-module as well as written tests. There are 5 indicators utilized as benchmarks to describe students' Critical Thinking abilities in this research, namely providing simple explanations (MPS), building foundational skills (MKD), summarizing (M), providing further explanations (MPL), and applying strategies and techniques (MS). The study's outcomes reveal a variation in the average level of critical thinking skills among students participating in learning sessions employing teaching videos with e-modules compared to those engaged in online classes utilizing WhatsApp. The average critical thinking abilities of students in the learning class, utilizing teaching videos with modules, is 68.55. In contrast, the average critical thinking abilities of students in online learning classes are recorded at 50.82.
