Houseflies (Musca domestica) are flies that are abundant in Indonesia and are often known as disease vectors. This study aims to determine the concentration of tobacco leaf extract (Nicotina tabacum L.) that is effective in killing houseflies (Musca domestica), as well as treatments (respiratory poison and stomach poison) that are effective in killing houseflies (Musca domestica). The study was conducted at the Biology Education Laboratory, Faculty of Education, Timor University. This research method is an experimental type using a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 1 control group without treatment (negative control) and 4 groups with treatment and repeated 3 times, each repetition containing 10 Musca domestica. The data obtained were subjected to regression analysis using Microsoft Excel to obtain probit values, and the SPSS 22.0 application was also used with the One-Way ANOVA test to obtain significant values. Based on observations and data analysis, the results for respiratory poison with the highest number of Musca domestica deaths were 29 at a concentration of 80%, while for stomach poison with the highest number of deaths were 21 at a concentration of 80%. So it can be concluded that respiratory poison kills more Musca domestica than stomach poison. And the most effective concentration to kill is 23% concentration as respiratory poison.

Understanding arboreal insect communities, especially their role as herbivores, predators, and pollinators, is needed to manage rainfed paddy fields sustainably. Therefore, this descriptive exploratory research was conducted on rainfed paddy fields in Kutai Kartanegara to determine the community structure and diversity of arboreal insects collected by sweeping net method for diurnal insects and light traps for nocturnal insects. Based on the value of the Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H), Simpson dominance index (D), and uniformity index (1-D), the rainfed paddy field ecosystem in Kutai Kartanegara is relatively stable with the co-dominance of several arboreal insect species belonging to the genera Apis, Leptocorisa, Orthetrum, Eurema, and Melanoplus. Orthetum can potentially be a natural enemy in these rainfed paddy agroecosystems.
Budiman Anang Sutra Nova Hariani Copyright (c) 2024 Budiman, Anang Sutra, Nova Hariani https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2024-06-01 2024-06-01 5 1 1 8 10.37304/bed.v5i1.13669
