Abstract

Regional economic performance reflects both the pace of growth and the capacity of an economy to transform its production structure. This study analyzes the development, sectoral composition, and growth of the gross regional domestic product (GRDP) of Batang Hari Regency at constant prices during 2015–2024. A descriptive quantitative approach was applied to secondary data obtained from Statistics Indonesia. The analysis comprised trend assessment, year-on-year growth calculations, sectoral comparisons, and comparisons among the pre-pandemic, pandemic, and post-pandemic periods. The results show that real GRDP increased from IDR 9.70 trillion in 2015 to IDR 14.66 trillion in 2024. Economic growth remained relatively stable at approximately 4–5% during 2016–2019 before contracting by 0.48% in 2020. Recovery began in 2021 with growth of 4.85% and peaked at 12.26% in 2022, primarily driven by mining and quarrying. Growth subsequently moderated to 3.71% in 2023 and 2.99% in 2024. Agriculture, forestry, and fishing remained the dominant economic sector, while mining generated substantial short-term fluctuations. The findings indicate that Batang Hari’s economy remains dependent on primary commodities, increasing its exposure to external shocks and commodity cycles. Strengthening manufacturing, value-added downstream activities, and service-sector development is therefore necessary to promote a more diversified, resilient, and sustainable regional economy.
