Abstract

In the current era of globalization, foreign cultures can enter society easily and influence the values, habits, and cultural awareness of younger generations. One effort that schools can undertake as educational institutions to prevent the possible erosion of local culture is organizing extracurricular activities based on traditional arts. This article aims to explain the efforts made by SDN 5 Nagrikaler Purwakarta to preserve the local culture of West Java, particularly angklung art, through angklung extracurricular activities. The research employed a field research approach, with data collected through interviews and observations involving participants in the extracurricular program. The findings were analyzed and presented descriptively to provide an account of the implementation and contribution of the activity. The results show that angklung extracurricular activities at SDN 5 Nagrikaler can serve as an effective solution for introducing, maintaining, and preserving angklung as part of local cultural heritage among students. Through participation, students gain direct experience in recognizing and practicing traditional musical art. The students also demonstrated high enthusiasm, active participation, and interest during the angklung extracurricular sessions. Therefore, this activity contributes positively to strengthening students’ cultural awareness and encouraging the continuous preservation of angklung art within the school environment and the wider community.
