Abstract

The concept of Hydrocarbon Compounds is one of the chemical concepts taught in class XI SMA. This study aims to describe the profile of mastery of the concept of Hydrocarbon Compounds in class XI MIPA-2 SMA Negeri 4 Palangka Raya in the 2018/2019 academic year. The subjects of this study were 35 students of class XI MIPA-2 SMA Negeri 4 Palangka Raya in the 2018/2019 academic year who had received lessons on hydrocarbon compounds. The data used in this study were in the form of lesson plans obtained from the teacher concerned, data on student concept mastery obtained through a description test of hydrocarbon compounds with a total of 18 questions out of 4 indicators and data from student interviews. The data obtained were then analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the mastery of the concept of hydrocarbon compounds in students was analyzed in terms of the achievement of each indicator of student mastery in indicator 1, namely identifying carbon compounds based on C, H and O atoms in carbon compounds by 51.4% including the medium category, indicator 2 which describes the peculiarities of atoms. 51.5% of carbon in carbon compounds is in the medium category, indicator 3 is describing alkane compounds, alkene compounds, and alkyne compounds of 74.6% including high categories, indicator 4 is describing ring compounds and closed chain compounds of 38.6% included in the low category.
