Abstract

This article discusses how two important figures in literature, Akhbar Hallaj, through his poem “The Crucifixion of a Mystic,” and Rudaki, through his poems “Reunion After Separation” and “Lament in Old Age,” reflect the concepts of existence and eternity. The aim of this study is to gain a better understanding of how these two poets depict the meaning of human existence and the desire for eternity in their spiritual and emotional lives. Rudaki's poems depict sadness, longing, and the transience of old age as part of a reflection on the meaning of life, while Hallaj's works are filled with mystical symbolism and sacrifice as a path toward union with God. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with literary text interpretation methods to analyze the symbolic dimensions and meanings contained in these texts. By comparing the two works, this study demonstrates that the search for the meaning of life and eternity is not only religious, but also deeply personal and existential. The research findings reveal that experiences of suffering, loss, and love are crucial in shaping the poets' spiritual awareness. Thus, the works of Hallaj and Rudaki can be understood as universal representations of the human struggle against mortality and the longing for eternal meaning.
