Abstract

The background of this research is the result of reflection on English learning conducted by researchers as English teachers in class IX A. It is known that students in this class still have very low abilities in writing narrative texts. The results of the evaluation held after learning showed unsatisfactory results. This is because the teaching technique is not suitable, usually the teacher speaks in front of the class, the students only speak when the teacher orders them to speak. These problems arise as a result of inappropriately choosing teaching methods, materials, techniques, media or a combination of these problems. Basically, to get the activeness and participation of students in the teaching and learning process, teachers are required to be communicative and creative. The results of the evaluation showed that the average score of students in class IX A of SMP Negeri 2 Bangsalsari Jember on this material was 61.84 with a percentage of 48.39% completeness that did not meet the KKM. The formulation of the problem in this study is how to improve English writing skills in fairytales narrative texts through the use of the cooperative round table learning model with picture series for class IX A students of SMP Negeri 2 Bangsalsari Jember 2018-2019 Semester 2 Academic Year? while the purpose of this study is to describe the improvement of English writing skills in fairytales narrative texts through the use of the cooperative round table learning model with a picture series of class IX A students at SMP Negeri 2 Bangsalsari Jember in the 2018-2019 academic year Semester 2. The research design used was classroom action research. in two cycles. Each cycle consists of two meetings. Each cycle consists of planning, action, observation and reflection. Methods of data collection using the method of test, observation and documentation. The conclusion of this study is that there is an increase in English writing skills in fairytales narrative texts through the use of the cooperative round table learning model with picture series for class IX A students at SMP Negeri 2 Bangsalsari Jember in the 2018-2019 academic year Semester 2, namely before the study the percentage of completeness was 48.39 % with an average score of 61.84, increased in the first cycle as many as 70.97% of students who scored above the KKM with an average value of 74.84, and in the second cycle as many as 96.77% of students scored above the KKM with an average value of 82.03.
