Abstract

Lung Abscess is localized collection of pus within the lung parenchyma due to microbial infection. Causative etiology can be monomicrobial or polymicrobial pathogens. Lung abscess is still a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. Meticulous medical history, physical examination, and supporting examination are necessary for establishing lung abscess from other lung disease. This case report was performed to identify the risk factor and managements associated with lung abscess. It was reported, patient was a male aged 43 year old, came with intense cough with mucopurulent smell’s sputum production, severe chest pain on the mid left chest, malaise, decrease appetite, weight loss, patient has been experiencing these complaints for the past three months. On chest examination, obtained decreased breath sounds and dullness percussion in left lung. In this case, there are risk factors which induced lung abscess of the patient, namely frequent drinking of alcohol and poor dental and oral hygiene. Primary lung abscess is often cause by aspiration of oropharyngeal secretions or anaerobic bacteria as dominant cariogenic bacteria. Antibiotic therapy should followed by targeted therapy depending on microscopic examination to improve outcomes and prognosis of the patient
