Post Publication Discussion
1. Purpose and Scope
Jurnal Ilmu Sosial, Politik dan Pemerintahan (JISPAR) recognizes post-publication discussion as an essential component of scholarly communication, academic accountability, and the continuous development of knowledge. The publication of an article does not preclude further academic scrutiny, critical evaluation, or scholarly debate.
JISPAR welcomes constructive, evidence-based comments, critical observations, clarifications, and scholarly responses concerning articles previously published in the journal. Such discussions aim to strengthen theoretical perspectives, improve methodological rigor, evaluate research findings, and encourage the advancement of knowledge in social sciences, political studies, public administration, governance, and related fields.
All post-publication discussions must be conducted professionally, respectfully, and in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies and recognized scholarly standards.
Readers, researchers, authors, and other members of the academic community who wish to submit comments, scholarly critiques, or responses concerning articles published in JISPAR are encouraged to contact the editorial team via email at jisparupr@gmail.com. Submissions should include the title and bibliographic details of the article concerned, including its DOI or article URL where available, a clear explanation of the issues raised, supporting scholarly evidence or references, and the contributor's name and institutional affiliation. Contributors should also disclose any relevant competing interests.
2. Scope of Post-Publication Discussion
Post-publication discussions may address, but are not limited to, the following aspects of a published article:
-
Theoretical and conceptual arguments: Critical examination of theoretical frameworks, conceptual assumptions, and scholarly perspectives.
-
Research methodology: Discussion of research design, data collection procedures, analytical techniques, and methodological limitations.
-
Research findings and interpretation: Evidence-based evaluation of findings, conclusions, alternative interpretations, and research implications.
-
Public administration and governance: Scholarly discussion of public policy, institutional performance, bureaucratic practices, collaborative governance, and public service delivery.
-
Political and social analysis: Critical examination of political processes, public participation, social dynamics, institutional relationships, and policy implications.
-
Research transparency and integrity: Identification of inaccurate citations, reporting inconsistencies, authorship concerns, conflicts of interest, or other issues that may affect the credibility of a published article.
Submissions must be directly relevant to a previously published JISPAR article and demonstrate clear academic significance. Personal attacks, unsupported allegations, defamatory statements, and comments lacking substantive scholarly reasoning will not be considered for publication.
3. Forms of Post-Publication Discussion
Post-publication discussions may take the following forms:
a. Letter to the Editor
A Letter to the Editor presents a focused scholarly comment, question, clarification, or critique concerning a previously published JISPAR article. The submission must identify the article being discussed and provide appropriate scholarly arguments, evidence, or references.
b. Scholarly Commentary
A scholarly commentary provides an academic analysis of the theoretical, methodological, empirical, or policy-related implications of a published article. It should contribute substantively to scholarly debate within the scope of JISPAR.
c. Author Response
An Author Response allows the original author(s) to address substantive comments, criticisms, or questions concerning their published work. Responses must be evidence-based, relevant to the issues raised, and presented in a professional academic manner.
All submissions are subject to editorial assessment and do not automatically qualify for publication.
4. Submission Procedure and Contact Information
Readers, researchers, authors, and other members of the academic community who wish to submit comments, scholarly critiques, or responses concerning articles published in JISPAR are encouraged to contact the JISPAR Editorial Office via email at jisparupr@gmail.com.
Submissions should include the following information:
-
The title and bibliographic details of the published article being discussed, including its DOI or article URL where available.
-
The contributor's name, institutional affiliation, and contact information.
-
A clear explanation of the purpose and principal arguments of the discussion.
-
Supporting evidence, scholarly references, or relevant documentation where appropriate.
-
A disclosure of any competing interests that could influence the submission.
Contributions must be original, academically relevant, and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or publication outlet. Contributors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of their statements and obtaining permission for third-party material where required.
For further information regarding submission requirements or the post-publication discussion process, contributors may contact the JISPAR Editorial Office at jisparupr@gmail.com.
5. Editorial Assessment and Publication Process
All post-publication discussion submissions will be evaluated by the Editor-in-Chief or a designated member of the editorial team.
The editorial assessment will consider:
-
Relevance to the original published article and the journal's scope.
-
Scholarly significance and contribution to academic discussion.
-
Accuracy of the arguments, evidence, and supporting references.
-
Clarity, coherence, and appropriateness of the academic presentation.
-
Compliance with publication ethics and the journal's editorial policies.
Where appropriate, the editorial team may seek an independent expert assessment or subject the submission to peer review. The editorial team may accept, request revisions to, or reject a submission based on its scholarly merit and compliance with the journal's standards.
Editorial decisions will be made impartially and without inappropriate influence from the authors of the original article or other interested parties.
6. Right of Reply
When a post-publication discussion raises substantive questions or criticism concerning a published article, JISPAR may invite the original author(s) to provide a formal response.
The original author(s) will be given a reasonable opportunity to address the issues raised, clarify their arguments, provide additional evidence, or acknowledge errors where appropriate.
An Author Response must address the substantive academic issues and must not contain personal attacks, defamatory statements, or inappropriate disclosures of confidential information.
Where editorially appropriate, the discussion and the corresponding author response may be published as separate contributions and linked to the original article. The original author(s) are not required to agree with the criticism but are expected to respond professionally and substantively.
The absence of a response from the original author(s) will not automatically prevent the publication of a scientifically valid discussion, provided that the submission meets the journal's editorial and ethical requirements.
7. Corrections and Research Integrity Concerns
Post-publication discussions may identify errors, inconsistencies, or ethical concerns that require further editorial action.
Where an identified error does not materially undermine the reliability of the research, JISPAR may consider publishing a formal correction or clarification in accordance with its editorial policies.
Where a discussion raises credible concerns regarding plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, authorship misconduct, unethical research practices, or other serious publication ethics violations, the matter will be assessed under the journal's Allegations of Research Misconduct Policy.
If the reliability or integrity of a published article is called into question, JISPAR may consider appropriate measures, including an expression of concern, correction, or retraction, depending on the evidence and the seriousness of the issue.
Post-publication discussion does not automatically alter, invalidate, or retract the original article. Any formal editorial action will be determined separately based on the available evidence and applicable editorial policies.
8. Ethical Standards and Confidentiality
All contributors are expected to maintain high standards of academic integrity, professional conduct, and responsible scholarly communication.
JISPAR will handle submissions fairly and impartially, manage relevant conflicts of interest, and protect confidential information where appropriate. Contributors must disclose competing interests and ensure that their comments are supported by credible evidence and presented respectfully.
The editorial team reserves the right to decline submissions that violate the journal's ethical standards, contain unsupported allegations, or fail to contribute meaningfully to scholarly discussion.
Where concerns about research integrity arise, JISPAR will assess the available evidence and, when necessary, consult relevant experts or institutions in accordance with the journal's applicable policies.
9. Transparency and Scholarly Record
JISPAR is committed to maintaining the transparency, accessibility, and integrity of its published scholarly record.
Where a post-publication discussion or author response is accepted, the journal will seek to establish a clear bibliographic relationship between the contribution and the original article, including appropriate links or cross-references where technically feasible.
Any subsequent correction, expression of concern, or retraction will be documented in accordance with the relevant journal policy.
Through this mechanism, JISPAR seeks to foster constructive academic debate, strengthen accountability in scholarly communication, and support the continuous improvement of research in social sciences, political studies, public administration, and governance.
10. Final Provisions
Post-publication discussion is an important mechanism for advancing scholarly knowledge and maintaining confidence in academic publishing. JISPAR encourages readers, researchers, and authors to engage critically and constructively with published research while respecting academic integrity and professional standards.
This policy should be read in conjunction with JISPAR's Publication Ethics, Allegations of Research Misconduct, and Article Retraction & Withdrawal policies. JISPAR may review and update this policy as necessary to remain consistent with developments in scholarly communication and recognized publication ethics standards.
