Neglected children are a vulnerable group at risk of experiencing a decline in meaning in life due to experiences of neglect, loss, limited emotional support, and ongoing social stress. This study aimed to examine the effect of the positive self-talk technique on the meaning in life of neglected children at the UPTD Dharma Child Protection Social Institution. This study employed a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants consisted of six children selected through purposive sampling based on an initial screening process, with low to moderate levels of meaning in life. Data were collected using a meaning in life scale and analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results showed that all participants experienced an increase in meaning in life scores after the intervention, with a mean rank of 3.50 and a sum of ranks of 21.00. The significance value of Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) was 0.027 (< 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. These findings suggest that the positive self-talk technique has a significant effect on improving the meaning in life of neglected children. Thus, positive self-talk may be considered a simple cognitive intervention strategy to help children from emotionally and socially stressful backgrounds develop a more positive self-view, a sense of self-worth, and a more meaningful life orientation.
