Abstract

Sundanese migrant students are vulnerable to culture shock due to differences in language, daily practices, communication styles, and social norms in their new environment. This study aims to examine the relationship between coping strategies and the Sundanese philosophy of Trisilas, comprising silih asih, silih asah, and silih asuh, as an adaptive framework for Sundanese migrant students experiencing culture shock. The study employed a systematic literature review of scientific articles indexed in Scopus or published in SINTA-accredited journals. Of the 58 articles initially identified, 33 met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed thematically. Non-journal sources, including undergraduate theses, master’s theses, dissertations, books, and conference proceedings without rigorous peer review, were excluded from the analysis. The findings indicate that silih asih can be conceptualized as a foundation for emotion-focused coping by strengthening empathy and social support. Silih asah is associated with problem-focused coping through learning, problem-solving, and cognitive and academic adaptation. Meanwhile, silih asuh supports a sense of security through mentoring, protection, and communal support. These findings suggest that the Trisilas philosophy has the potential to serve as a conceptual framework for developing multicultural guidance and counseling services that assist Sundanese migrant students in adapting to new social and academic environments. Further empirical research is required to examine the effectiveness of this framework in higher education counseling services.
