Abstract

Student anxiety is a psychological problem that affects academic, emotional, and social aspects. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in group counseling to reduce student anxiety. This study employed a systematic literature review (SLR) method by referring to the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Data were obtained from Google Scholar, Scopus, and PubMed, covering publications from 2021 to 2025. After the stages of identification, screening, eligibility assessment, and inclusion, 10 articles met the criteria and were analyzed using a thematic approach. The findings indicate that CBT in group counseling tends to be effective in reducing anxiety and improving students’ emotional regulation, self-confidence, and social skills. Its effectiveness is influenced by internal factors, such as motivation, psychological readiness, and active participation, as well as external factors, including counselor competence, group dynamics, and environmental support. These findings suggest that CBT is a relevant approach for implementation in guidance and counseling services in educational settings. This study provides practical implications for school counselors in optimizing evidence-based group counseling services.
