Adolescence is a developmental period characterized by increasing attention to physical appearance and the development of body image. Cognitive processes, particularly negative automatic thoughts associated with cognitive distortions, may be related to how adolescents evaluate their bodies. This study aimed to describe the levels of cognitive distortions and body image and examine the relationship between these variables among tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 5 Kota Tasikmalaya. A quantitative correlational design was employed, involving 218 students selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using the Automatic Thoughts Questionnaire (ATQ) and the Body Image Scale and analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson product-moment correlation. The results showed that most students were classified as having low levels of cognitive distortions (80.3%) and moderate levels of body image (51.4%). The correlation analysis revealed a significant negative relationship between cognitive distortions and body image (r = -0.596, p < .001). These findings indicate that students reporting higher levels of negative automatic thoughts tended to have lower body image scores. The study provides empirical information on the association between cognitive processes and adolescents' body evaluations, which may inform the development of school guidance and counseling services. However, the observed association does not establish a causal relationship.
