Abstract

A humanistic approach in group guidance emphasizes the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment that enables group members to engage in self-exploration and achieve personal growth. This study addresses the limited in-depth understanding of counselors’ core roles and functions within the context of group guidance services. The purpose of this research is to analyze the role of counselors in group guidance from a humanistic perspective. This study employed a literature review method by analyzing 30 scholarly articles published between 2010 and 2025, along with several theoretical books as foundational references. The selection criteria focused on topic relevance to group guidance, the application of humanistic principles, and methodological quality. The findings indicate that the implementation of humanistic principles, including unconditional positive regard, empathy, and authenticity, effectively strengthens interpersonal relationships within the group and supports members’ personal development processes. Furthermore, humanistic-based group guidance contributes to enhancing self-esteem and social skills, while reducing academic anxiety and stress. The practical implications of this study underscore the importance of continuous professional development for counselors to improve the effectiveness of group guidance services and to ensure the creation of environments that foster the personal growth of group members.
