Abstract

Adolescent mental health requires serious attention because it can affect adolescents’ ability to face developmental demands, including academic challenges. Data from the Indonesia National Adolescent Mental Health Survey (I-NAMHS, 2022) showed that 34.9% of adolescents aged 10–17 years experienced mental health problems in the past 12 months. One psychological factor that may support adolescents in facing academic challenges is growth mindset, namely the belief that abilities can be developed through effort, learning strategies, and experience. This study aimed to describe academic resilience, describe growth mindset, and analyze growth mindset as a predictor of academic resilience among adolescents at SMAN 3 Kota Tasikmalaya. This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample consisted of 220 eleventh-grade students selected using non-probability sampling through incidental sampling. The instruments used were the Academic Resilience Scale (ARS-30) and the Adolescent Mindset Scale adapted. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression. The results showed that students’ academic resilience was in the high category, while their growth mindset was predominantly in the strong growth mindset category. Simple linear regression analysis showed that growth mindset was a positive and significant predictor of academic resilience (R = 0.635; R² = 0.403; p < 0.001). Thus, stronger growth mindset was associated with higher academic resilience.
